MAY EVENTS
Note to seekers... I am still adding in May events.... Trying to update things via sketchy dial-up service while I've been out of state was a nightmare! I'm working with a web guru to finally move SPN into it's next phase which will be far more user friendly and not so dependent on my particular internet connection of the moment. It's going to be amazing! Watch for more info over the summer! In the meantime, please bear with me as I spend many extra hours trying to do this the 'old fashioned way' this month. Lisa Kaye

World Tai Chi & Qigong Day
One World... One Breath
Saturday 4/28/12 10-12noon
1-3pm for Tai Chi and Qigong Instructors Meeting
Location: Sacred Heart Medical Center, Riverbend Drive, Springfield, OR
A human being is a part of a whole, called by us a universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest . . . a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.
About Tai Chi Yoga Center
The mission of the Tai Chi Yoga Center is to provide quality body mind trainings of Tai Chi, Qigong, Yoga and Meditation. We offer classes, workshops, retreats and training to anyone with a desire to learn, cultivate and share with others.

PrayerWorks
"Conflict Resolution: A Spiritual Approach"
International speaker John Tyler from Pittsburgh, PA will give a talk titled "Conflict Resolution: A Spiritual Approach" on Tuesday, May 1, at 7:00 p.m. at First Church of Christ, Scientist, 1390 Pearl Street, Eugene. This will be the final event in the PrayerWorks 2011-2012 series.
Mr. Tyler has an interesting background. A former labor organizer and political science professor, he had the rare privilege of being asked to work with a group of South Africans, most of whom had spent time in prisons under apartheid rule. Tyler was deeply grateful to share his insights regarding racial conflict on an international scale with these spiritually minded South Africans. He had already seen the potency of prayer transform parts of his own community when he helped found a residence for students on the University of Pittsburgh that seeks to heal racial divisions. (For his involvement in this project he received the YWCA’s Racial Justice Award.) “Those who asked me to work with them were an exceptional group that believed in the power of prayer, and the importance of forgiveness as a part of loving one's neighbor. They were concerned with providing a constitutional framework for the aftermath of what nearly everyone accepted would be a terribly bloody, but successful rebellion: the uprising of the large African majority against the white apartheid government, which had been increasing the severity of its repressive separatist policies."
“We were all praying individually.” Tyler recalls. “Collectively, we were led to sketch out, beyond constitutional provisions, the beginning of a framework for knitting back together some of the torn fragments of South African society, suggestions that were later shaped into a set of courts governed by a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”
Tyler says “In our efforts to bind up the wounds of a whole society, I felt the deep love of my colleagues for God's creation, and their confidence in the power of that love. Then, in 1990, came the beginning of a series of only-dreamed-of events that led to the peaceful, democratic election of NelsonMandela as the new president of South Africa.”
Tyler, now a practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing, will share ideas on forgiveness, reconciliation and healing in a free public talk which will be followed by a question and answer session.
Tyler’s talk is the final event in the PrayerWorks series that began last fall and has focused on promoting a violence-free community. PrayerWorks is a spiritual initiative bringing the power of prayer to bear on community concerns. People of all faiths are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Tyler’s talk is free and open to the public. He invites everyone to “explore how we can get involved in healing conflicts in our own lives and for the world -- from century-old, divisive national conflicts to a family fight.”
We hope you will make time to hear this uplifting and informative talk.

SCOTT COSSU:
Scott is an internationally known, composer, pianist and recording artist. He was up front when New Age was just beginning over 30 years ago. He was one of the first Windham Hill Artists to join with founder Will Ackerman and Alex Degrassi, in their new label out of Palo Alto, California.
Scott would affectionately call his music Heavy Mental or Cosmic National Geographic, even though he was one of the grandfathers of the New Age scene; he was labeled a “jazz luminary of the future”, by Billboard Magazine. Much of Scott’s work exhibits departures from the New Age field and includes a melodic blend of jazz, classical and ethnic influences.
HALIE LOREN TRIO:
In a relatively brief span of time, Loren appears to have achieved enough success and received enough kudos to define an entire career. Since her stage debut at the age of ten at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp in Alaska, Loren has continued to wow and woo audiences with her warm, intimate live performances; she is an elegant, electrifying performer, full of charisma and cool. And she has garnered more than her share of in-the-know acknowledgment, both critical and professional: from the Female Rising Star and Alternative Entertainer awards she won before she was 16, to later awards from such worthies as Billboard International and the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, up to her most recent award for "Best Vocal Jazz Album" at the 2009 Just Plain Folks Music Awards.
Loren’s newest release, ‘Heart First’ was released in Japan (JVC/Victor) in December 2011, garnering Jazz Critique Magazine’s 2011 coveted "Golden (top) prize" in the Vocal Jazz Album category. Playing to sell-out audiences both abroad and in the US, Loren continues touring in support of ‘Heart First’, which was released by Justin Time Records worldwide in March 2012.
LAURA KEMP:
Six years after releasing her critically acclaimed album May, singer-songwriter Laura Kemp has produced her sixth studio collection, Bodhi Tree. A fixture on the Northwest music scene since 1990 and regular winner of the Eugene Weekly’s annual reader’s poll for Best Singer-Songwriter, Laura ventured out of her hometown of Eugene, OR and traveled to Nashville, TN to record her most recent CD. This was not her first trip to Music City – as a student at Vanderbilt University back in the mid 1980’s, some of her earliest experiences on stage were in Nashville, as well as in Germany where she spent a year as an exchange student, skipping class, busking in the streets and gigging in Irish pubs.
The songwriting on her latest album, Bodhi Tree, is partly influenced by a journey Laura took to India in 2008 where she spent three months studying yoga, volunteering in an orphanage, and traveling. She brought back a harmonium, a traditional Indian instrument that she uses on the title track of the new disc... It also gives the listener a taste of what’s to come in a future recording. She is currently studying jazz guitar and plans on eventually releasing a full album of jazz standards. She also looks forward to recording a collection of Indian-influenced kirtan/devotional music featuring her harmonium with a combination of Sanskrit and English lyrics.

FRONTIERS IN SHAMANISM
A project of the Finding Your Medicine School of Shamanic Practice
The course is to begin in May 2012 (tentatively scheduled for Sunday May 6th).
Alida Birch, MSW, CSC, and Marta Boyett are pleased to announce advanced-level instruction in shamanic practice, presented as a year-long training. Frontiers in Shamanism both expands on and transcends existing courses in core shamanism. This will be the fourth year it is presented. Feedback from participants has been enthusiastic. One student chose to take the course twice!
Going into our fourth year, we look forward to reaping the benefits of experience by deepening the previous curriculum, and expanding certain areas of focus.
Course content will be directed by three factors:
· Instructor choice, arising from our 48 years combined experience and exposure to many teachings.
· The guidance of our helping Spirits.
· The unfolding needs of the Circle.
The current course outline includes but is not limited to, ethnic traditions, especially central Asian, north European, and Amazonian; Plant Spirit healing; advanced ways of merging for miraculous outcomes; different styles of working with power objects for healing; and Middle World specialties including Faery teaching. Participants learn the beauty and balance of enacting exquisite community ceremony in one tradition, contrasted with the stripped-down, silently effective methods of another. Particular emphasis is placed on powerful traditional methods that can be most unobtrusively integrated into the modern Euro-American setting.
The course is to begin in May 2012 (tentatively scheduled for Sunday May 6th).
Frontiers in Shamanism broadens the scope of understanding, deepens relationship with Spirit to an inexpressible degree, and promotes practitioner versatility and adaptability to any situation. We invite you to join us in taking this step.

"The Soul of the Heart Sacred Circle" combines Hellinger's Systemic Constellation Work and sacred ceremony. It is an experiential process, working at a deep soul level. This heart-based approach brings more immediate and lasting impact than techniques that address the mind alone. Through constellation work, we uncover hidden generational dynamics which create obstacles that prevent us from living our lives well. Shifts occur on a systemic level so that we can experience the natural flow of love, strength and support within our lives.
