Lama Sonam completed the traditional three-year retreat under the guidance of Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing, the director of KDC, and serves as a translator for him. Sonam is a Eugenian with training in the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.
Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing is a meditation master in the Shangpa and Karma Kagyu lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, is the director of KDC and gives teachings, seminars and empowerments throughout the West Coast.

Jewish Movement Meditation awakens the body’s own capacity for self-transformation. With music, sound, and breath, we use techniques of Jewish meditation to invoke the internal genius of the body’s living waters—the mayyim chayyim—and their power of self-renewal. Join us as we dive into the sacred waters of life to restore health, build core strength, and listen in together to the wisdom of the body. We will work on the floor individually, but together, in comfortable clothing without zippers or buttons. No special experience, strength level, or movement training is necessary. But it is important to form the safe space of a working group or community. This is an ongoing practice group. Newcomers are invited to join at the start of each 4 week period.

These holy-days are a time of prayer, music, reflection and learning, a time when the veils between the worlds thin. The Ad Olam services are liberal, renewal, feminist, and inclusive in orientation, yet draw from traditional and mystical sources. All are welcome to come to any or all of the services.
The High Holy Day Coordinators & Music Makers: These Holy Days are being coordinated by Rabbi Hanan, Jordan Michels, Rob Tobias, and Beth Miriam Rose. Beth and Rob are also are featured muscians this year. Rabbi Hanan will be present at most of the services leading and joining in song, chant, prayer and teachings.

This course is the ideal starting place for those who are curious about meditation and seek respite from the speed and aggression that permeate our lives. Through meditation, we can discover greater peace of mind, diffuse suffering and frustration, and tap into our compassionate nature.
Participants will receive detailed instructions on how to meditate, as well as teachings on the benefits of meditation, on creating an inspiring “inner posture” and applying the universal wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism to everyday challenges and problems.
Session will be led by Venerable Jigme Rinpoche,Tibetan Buddhist meditation master and scholar of Buddhist philosophy. Rinpoche serves as the founder and spiritual director of NGSCL Buddhist institute Eugene, Oregon. He has been traveling and teaching in the north america and europe for over 10 years. Join us as we delve into texts from Bible, Talmud, and midrash to see how the ancients used the connection with water to make Sukkot a holiday about gratitude, hope, and relationship with the Divine.
Rabbi Helen Plotkin is a scholar of ancient Jewish texts and interpretive traditions. She teaches courses in Hebrew for text study, midrash, and Jewish mysticism. She is also the founder and director of Beit Midrash, Swarthmore's Center for the Study of Classical Jewish Texts. Her research interests include the Bible, midrash, the Talmud, the Zohar, Hebrew language and Aramaic. She received a B.A. from Swarthmore College and an M.A. from the University of Michigan. She received rabbinic ordination and the Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters from Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.

Mindfulness-Based Conflict Engagement (MBCE) is a practical model for pursuing peace. It draws primarily on the teachings of Jewish sages from ancient to modern times (i.e. from the Torah and Talmud to Marshall and Larry Rosenberg). MBCE supports the development of mindfulness, empathy, and authenticity and promotes the growth of wisdom and compassion in our lives. MBCE encourages us to reach more deeply into ourselves and to connect more fully and peacefully with family members. Lecture, group conversation, and individual experiential exercises will be coupled with practice in the application of MBCE to our day-to-day lives and conflicts. Couples and individuals are welcome to attend.
Barry Nobel, JD, PhD has been a family mediator for Lane County and in private practice since 1994. For the past 12 years, he has also been the lead teacher for Lane County’s “Focus on Children,” parent education program. A former attorney, Barry has taught conflict engagement for two decades, including courses on “Mediation & Mindfulness” in Portland State University’s Conflict Resolution Graduate Program. Barry earned a JD at the University of Oregon School of Law and a PhD at the University of California at Santa Barbara. In the past, he taught at the University of Oregon School of Law, Lane Community College, Linfield College, the University of Puget Sound, and the University of California at Santa Barbara. Barry has published several works, including the article "Meditation & Mediation."
