Lisa Polston, Yoga with Dave
(541) 515-3614
Yoga for Everybody and All Bodies
Space is limited.
The initial meeting on January 28th will introduce the format, reading list and introductions.
Do you long to find a teacher who can make the classical yogic texts come alive for you? Do you wonder how the poses from a yoga class relate to spirituality? Would you like to learn to align with the Divine on your own terms bypassing religious rhetoric? If so, then this is the most important message you've read in a long time.
Dave Curtis, former Director of Tamarack Wellness Center's Yoga program and currently living and teaching in Los Angeles, is forming a Yoga study group in Eugene where students will learn to find their own way to a personal experience of the Divine through Yoga. The main focus of this group is to fill in the gaps that most teacher trainings and Immersions don't have the time to teach because they are focused on meeting the requirements of Yoga Alliance or some other licensing group. Most Immersions focus primarily on asana. In this training, asana is one component, but Dave is teaching Yoga using the real definition of the word. He's teaching us how to yoke our self to our own version of the Divine - whatever that may be. "Yoga doesn't have to be hard." Dave can help you integrate your yoga practice with your daily life and deepen your practice.

The Island Arts Style of Hula, under the guidance of Kumu Iwalani, is a low-impact physical activity that allows the practitioner to engage all the senses, encouraging healing through energy flow, breath awareness, and specific body movements. Kumu Iwalani's unique method of teaching connects us with the natural elements and incorporates techniques that serve to balance the psyche and promote overall well-being as it awakens the physical and mental capacities. Great for improving coordination, poise, strength, and stamina.

This is an ongoing practice group. Newcomers are invited to join at the start of each 4 week period.
Jewish Movement Meditation awakens the body’s own capacity for self transformation. With music, sound, and breath, we use techniques of Jewish meditation to invoke the internal genius of the body’s living waters—the mayyim chayyim—and their power of self-renewal. Join us as we dive into the sacred waters of life to restore health, build core strength, and listen in together to the wisdom of the body.
We will work on the floor individually, but together, in comfortable clothing without zippers or buttons. No special experience, strength level, or movement training is necessary. But it is important to form the safe space of a working group or community. This is an ongoing practice group. Newcomers are invited to join at the start of each 4 week period.
Evlyn Gould holds a M.A. and a Ph.D. in French Literature and a CAS Distinguished Professorship at the University of Oregon as well as B.A. degrees in French and Dance. She has trained 30 years in classical dance and has worked for 5 years in Continuum Movement.

In Judaism we’re often operating “above the neck” as it were, with our tradition’s long-standing embrace of prayer, study, and of course, debate. And yet, when Shabbat comes, tradition calls us to reconnect with our bodies and with the natural world. Join TBI member Caren Liebman, a licensed Psychotherapist and trained dancer, for this two-hour Shabbat afternoon relaxation / creative movement workshop. We will focus on conscious awareness of breath, progressive muscle relaxation, imagery and creative movement experientials. We’ll open and close the session with brief words of Torah. Enhance the beauty of Shabbat by finding balance, peace and joy with others.
Caren Liebman began as a dancer in NYC and has over 20 years experience in dance and creative movement. In Oregon, she has continued to integrate creative movement and relaxation groups for private clients and numerous organizations.

The Hebrew word Torah has to do with teaching and instructing. The great Jewish sage Hillel explained over 2000 years ago that the torah was about, "Not doing to others what you don't want done to yourself, the rest is commentary." So, let's read the first book in the torah and see what it has to share with us today, and also what the commentators throughout history thought it was trying to teach us about being better people.

This class will give people an introduction to Partner Yoga. Students will be amazed by the depths of their physical and emotional release not only with themselves but their partners. It is incredible for releasing relationship stress and diving into unforeseen depths of their relationship. There is no definition to who or what you are in relationship to the other. All are welcome. It may not be essential to bring a partner to class, but it is recommended. The effects of what one can do by themselves through Yoga is multiplied exponentially with a partner, especially with others in a class.
On-going drop in class continues from 2/9 through June. Next two month's dates are: 3/1, 8, 15, 22, 28, 4/5, 12, 19, 26...

This 'meta-Jewish' experience is open and welcoming for everyone whether you have little or lots of experience with Judaism or if you are just on an appreciative eclectic spiritual path you will find a home here.
For the February 12th Shabbat our kavanah (intention) will be exploring and nurturing our internal 'ner tamid' (eternal light) through meditation and Hebrew chant. Our contemplative work will focus on kindling that light and listening to what shifts are opened when we carry that light into our lives and into our relations with others. There is a causitive link between tending our own spiritual light with a practice like Shabbat and living our every day interactions in an empowered and nonviolent way.
We hope you will join with us for this deep, chant-filled exploration of the gifts of Shabbat whatever your spiritual path as part of our honoring of the Season for Nonviolence.Next month's Shabbat Chant Circle will be held on the THIRD Saturday of the month, 3/19 due to a special event on our usual second Saturday.

Cost: $35 per class

www.sentientbody.com
Please join Lisa Marks and Lucia McKelvey as we explore the Sentient Body and how Sentient energy creates our world. We invite you to come to one or both of these stand alone classes.
We focus on understanding Sentience, a trans-personal awareness that accesses the deep wisdom of the body. By developing a practice of noticing extremely subtle sensations called flirts or pre-signals we access the Essence Level of reality, the deep, unbroken wholeness from which all experience arises. From there we become co-creators with this underlying Essence level as it enters our world.
Through this work we discover our true path and unique dance, expressions of our essential selves. We enter magical realms as we explore the power of the body to guide us on our journey.
2/12/11- Delve into the Dreamland level of reality, where energies that have been ignored or unclaimed amplify themselves and enter dreams, synchronicity, symptoms, relationships and strong emotions.
3/19/11- Weave what we have learned into our daily lives and explore how our Consensus Reality experiences reflect all levels of being.
Contact Lisa, lisa(at)sentientbody.com or (360) 385-7760, Lucia, lucia(at)sentientbody.com or (541) 683-3286 to register. For more information visit our website at www.sentientbody.com

This is a rare visit from Dr. Leslie Conton of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. This training is the first-level training for most shamanic practices, and is a prerequisite for other studies with the Foundation. For more information, please contact Marta, above.
During this experiential workshop, participants are introduced to core shamanism, the near-universal methods of the shaman to enter non-ordinary reality for healing and problem-solving. Particular emphasis is put on the classic shamanic journey, one of the most remarkable visionary methods used by humankind to explore the hidden universe otherwise known through myth and dream. Practice includes comparisons by participants of their shamanic journeys as well as being introduced to shamanic divination and healing. They are also provided with methods to discover and study with their own individual spiritual teachers in non-ordinary reality. Participants learn how the journey is used to help restore spiritual power and health, and how shamanism can be applied in daily life to help heal oneself, others, and the planet.
Completion of this workshop qualifies participants to take more advanced courses with the Foundation for Shamanic Studies, as well as with nonaffiliated instructors.

Healing Movie Night w/ The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill

Sponsored by: The Center For Family Development, CALC, and The City of Eugene's Adaptive Recreation Services

Join us for a special monthly gathering to experience a movie with a healing
theme and a connecting, in-depth short discussion following it. Facilitated by
community social worker Mike Meyer MSW, CADC I, QMHP, we'll
discuss how the film affected us and how we can use the experience in our
daily lives. (Bring pillows if you would like to lay in padded area in front of chairs)
This month's film is "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill"
In San Francisco, there are at least two flocks of largely wild parrots who flock around the city. This film focuses on the flock of cherry-headed conures (and a lonely blue-headed one named Connor) who flock around the Telegraph Hill region of the city and their closest human companion, Mark Bittner . Through his own words, we learn of his life as a frustrated, homeless musician and how he came to live in the area where he decided to explore the nature around him. That lead him to discovering the parrot flock and the individual personalities of it. In a cinematic portrait, we are introduced to his colorful companions and the relationship they share as well as the realities of urban wild life that would change Bittner's life forever.
