Pre-registration/payment deadline: April 27
This Shabbat afternoon class is designed for people exploring Judaism for the first time and people looking to delve deeper into the realm of Jewish ritual and ethical practice. Using materials from an adult education curriculum he authored while in rabbinical school, Rabbi Maurice will present material on several aspects of this daily Jewish practice. The class will cover how one keeps a traditional kosher household today, ranging from Orthodox practice to Reform, Reconstructionist, and “eco-kosher” practice. We’ll also look at how the Torah presents kashrut, followed by how kashrut evolved into its more familiar form in the hands of the early rabbis who interpreted Torah. Finally, we’ll consider some contemporary questions arising for Jews seeking to incorporate kashrut into their lives in non-Orthodox communities such as Temple Beth Israel. (Though this is not a Foundations series class, it is appropriate for Foundations students seeking to continue their learning through the late spring.)

Chamaco - Cinema Pacific
Friday, May 7, 2010 ~ 6:30 p.m.
UO Robinson Theater
with actor/writer Kirk Harris and producer Scott Chambers
With post-production done here in Eugene by Chambers Productions, Chamaco is a border-crossing co-production. As one of the film’s producers, Don Franken, puts it, “[Chamaco] is a true Mexico-U.S. indie collaboration, a dual-language, cross-cultural, and cross-border film that pulls the two cultures and countries together.” Following in the tradition of boxing films (such as the recent Million Dollar Baby), yet distinct in its observations of Mexican-American relationships, Chamaco tells the story of a boxer past his prime (Kirk Harris) who, in order to train a young boxer (Alex Perea) with seemingly little potential but enormous drive, joins forces with his father (Martin Sheen), an American doctor working in Mexico City. The father and son must overcome their differences if they are to give their protégé any chance to box for the Mexican Olympic team. Harris, who co-wrote and co-produced the film, is a magnetic presence onscreen. Sheen also gives a rich performance, much of it delivered in Spanish.
With its big heart and special fusion of influences, Chamaco will earn its place in this exciting and growing national cinema.

Each year to commemorate the passing of His Eminence Kalu Rinpoche into the Pure Realms, Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing offers a series of special events culminating in a Puja of Blessing for the Deceased. This profound Puja is rarely performed in the West and carries a great blessing for the deceased. Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing offers this Puja each year for the benefit of all beings in general, and for the local community and KDC Sangha in particular. We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to benefit loved ones who have passed away (especially during the past year) at KDC’s annual Amitabha Puja for the Deceased. As described in detail below, your donations are highly auspicious and an important component of the Puja.
(Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing is a meditation master in the Shangpa and Karma Kagyu lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, is the resident director of Kagyu Dakshang Chuling Dharma Center in Eugene and also gives teachings, seminars and empowerments throughout the West Coast.)

~~~~~Amitabha Special Puja for the Deceased
Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing
Sunday, May 9, 2010 ~ approximately 2:30 p.m.
Please arrive between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. for this special Puja if you are not attending the all-day Amitabha Practice.
Location: Kagyu Dakshang Chuling
917 East 43rd Avenue, Eugene (between West Amazon and Fox Hollow Road.
(As a courtesy to the neighbors, please park on West Amazon and walk up hill to the center.)
For more info: 541-485-3961 or 541-683-1808 between 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM.This Puja is extremely helpful when performed for the benefit of one who has died. After dying, due to karma and habitual patterns, we have no control over our future rebirth, and we are driven by the power of our previous actions. This profound Puja purifies negativities and obscurations and liberates the deceased from samsara, leading to rebirth in the Pure Land of Dewachen. Names of deceased and donations may be submitted by anyone who has had a family member or friend die recently or long ago. It is traditional to make a monetary offering along with the names, because due to the auspiciousness of interdependence, the merit of the offering accomplishes the welfare of the deceased. Please submit the names along with monetary donations in advance.
Venerable Lama Tsang Tsing is available to perform the Amitabha Puja of Blessing for the Deceased throughout the year. You may request Lama to perform the Puja to benefit a friend or other loved one who has passed away. The Puja involves advance preparation (for Tormas, etc.) and items for a simple Tsok (food, candles, etc.). The Puja takes about two hours to complete. As a sponsor you are welcome to attend the Puja. It is customary to make donations for the many benefits of the deceased. Please contact Lama Kunzang at KDC, (541) 485-3961, 10:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m.
Everybody is born with a song of Spirit within. Everybody has a Spirit song that wants to be sung. “SOUL” singing has nothing to do with race, ethnicity, creed, or musical genre. “SOUL” is about authentically expressing whatever it is that your heart wants to express. “SOUL” singing is where Spirit desires to express as your song of life
In this workshop we will SING! We will seek out our own “SOUL” song! We will allow ourselves to be moved by the music of “our SOUL” !
This is a workshop open to singers and non-singers* (*people that don’t consider themselves singers). I make no promises to assist you to sound like anybody but exactly who You are here to BE.
"Jami Lula's music is more than a shiver-inducing experience in sound, it is inspiration itself as an offering just to you. What I love about Jami's improvisational textures is the intimacy he exudes through his personal intensity, which comes from a direct relationship with life, his love of it, and of humanity." — quote from Rev. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, featured teacher in The Secret
Founder, AGAPE International Spiritual Center
New Eugene SPIRITUAL TANTRA Group
Sunday, May 16, 2010 at 7:00 PM
This group is for people interested in learning and sharing about Tantra as a meditative as well as sensual practice to realize and embody the Divine within as well as without. We will do activities for self-healing, learning some of the techniques of Tantra, and enhancing our ability to be intimate in all relationships (not only our romantic ones). Tantra teaches us that the Divine is within us and all around us and the purpose of life is to connect the Divinity we experience within with the Divinity in all that we perceive as "other." These are safe, respectful, clothing-on meetups for singles and/or couples.
Please join us in creating fun, gender-balanced, informative meetings. Here's the link!
