11:00-1:00 Reading group
New Years is traditionally a time when people take stock of their life – a look at what is working and what doesn't fit anymore. Part of the human condition is always being able to understand more than one can actually live up to at any given time. This seems to be the way the universe keeps us moving forward - dangling the “carrot on a stick” just out of our reach. It can be useful to bring things to focus at a juncture like New Years. It is an opportunity to use the increased energy of group dynamics, which creates a powerful fulcrum, to make that next shift in consciousness which is ready to come forth.
Vegan vegetarian dishes will be included in the menu. We will then move to the sanctuary for an evening of live music (harp, Native American flute, piano, etc), dance, meditation and group interaction, all expressing the theme of renewal. There will be plenty of time for everyone to share their life’s journey, letting go of past sadness and regret, and clearing the way for new life that is being born in This moment. We are also asking anyone who would like to bring poetry or an inspirational reading (your own or someone else’s) to share with the group. Afterwards everyone is invited to stay the night and enjoy brunch together in the morning. After brunch we will have a reading group with everyone invited to bring their favorite inspirational book to share.

Sing the way you were born to. The human ability to sing evolved from our basic needs for communication and social bonding, then developed into a powerful medium for social and spiritual connection. When we honor the true purpose of our musical gifts and draw upon our inborn skills, we become better singers both technically and emotively.
Explore how passion and intention, energy and motion, sensory-awareness and surrender combine naturally to solve any technical vocal issue and make us more expressive singers. Learn to apply these tools to issues of breath support, projection, register changes, range and, ultimately, effective musical communication.
Students should prepare excerpts from one or two songs with technical challenges in them. Individual feedback is available as time allows, but not required. Participants are welcome to record the exercises for future study. Dress comfortably and bring a water bottle and a blanket or yoga mat.
Singers of all levels and styles benefit greatly from this extraordinarily simple and effective approach to vocal technique.
To register: send a check to Cathleen Wilder, PO Box 1061, Santa Fe, NM 87504. Include your name, phone, email address and date of workshop. After January 8, contact Cathleen directly at 505/819-9831 or email "info(at)laughingspiritmusic.com". Class size limited!

"The End of the Spiritual Journey, Right Here, Right Now"
Two Events with Jan Frazier, author of "When Fear Falls Away"
SATURDAY: Satsang at Tamarack Wellness Ctr in Eugene, 7-9 pm,
$10-20 sliding scaleSUNDAY: Daylong Intensive at Avalon Lodge, Eugene, 10 am-4 pm,
$50-80 sliding scale
Jan Frazier found herself one day permanently dissolved into the present moment, with a causeless stillness needing nothing. No longer racked with worry, or caught up in habituated thought patterns, she realized the Truth of who she really was - of who we all are.
Before her awakening she lived an ordinary life, with the familiar distresses over family life, health, and work. Now, she gently urges us to open our eyes. To let go of the quest for spiritual attainment, and the pursuit of self-improvement, and look no farther than this present moment, this present condition - right here, right now. To discover that we are not a problem needing fixing, but a vast pool of unresisting joy.
There is a presence within you
that has never suffered.
It lives in joy that has no cause.
It is who you most deeply are.
-Jan Frazier

What best-selling book has amazing stories; complex legal materials; commandments and complaints; sex and death; violence and reconciliation; prayers and poems; hope, despair, and even songs? The Torah! Join us for five sessions of Shabbat afternoon learning as we study the arc of the Torah’s stories and structure from beginning to end. This is a chance to gain a foundational understanding of what’s in the Torah, our most sacred text. The class is ideal for people studying Judaism for the first time or as a refresher, but it also is designed for people with more Jewish background and experience who would like a more systematic understanding of what the Torah contains and how it is organized.

INTERFAITH PRAYER SERVICE: “The Uniting Power of Love”
gathering on the 11th of every month...
6:45 pm Prelude
7:00-8:00 pm Prayer Service followed by fellowship
at First Christian Church,
1166 Oak Street, Eugene
E-mail: "info(at)interfaithprayer.org"
This is a special service dedicated to honoring all the young adults (ages 18-36) as the upcoming leaders of our communities (local and global).
“The Uniting Power of Love” is about how we can put aside all emotions, agendas, etc. and bring the power of love which is not just an emotion but an attitude coming from the core of our being as a guiding light in relating to ourselves and all beings. The goal for the service is to find that expression in our respective faith traditions in the form of a prayer, song, sacred writing, story, etc.
INTERFAITH PRAYER SERVICE INTERNATIONAL invites all community members on the 11th of every month to celebrate the oneness in our diversity through prayers, chants, readings from sacred texts and many other forms that come from the teachings and traditions of our participating presenters.
