MUKTI in Concert!
presented by Star Gate Books
Friday, July 23, 2010 ~ 8 pm
Event location: The Shaman's Den,
2895 Oak St., Eugene
$12 with advance purchase at Star Gate Books
(1374 Willamette, Eugene)
or $15 at the door at The Shaman's Den
A seamless blend of classical Indian, flamenco, and western pop lends a distinctive spice to the devotional music of ancient India known as "kirtan" or "bhajan." Infused with devotion and spiritual longing, the music of "Mukti" (a Sanskrit word which means "liberation") is uplifting, inspiring and danceable; yet ultimately calls the heart into a deep silence and stillness.

Heart of Now workshop at Kindred Spirits
July 23-25, 2010 (begins Friday at 6:45pm)
*See details below.
At our weekend workshops, the saying "The truth is within you" comes to life. The Heart of Now leads you through a set of exercises where you'll be encouraged to notice your thoughts and words, your sensations and feelings in a number of different settings; one-on-one, small groups and large groups, in stillness and in movement. You'll be supported in your exploration by the open-hearted questions and reflection of other participants and our large, committed assistant team.
The Heart of Now specifically focuses on feeling and releasing emotion; noticing and changing restrictive ideas we have about ourselves and others, including self-judgment; practicing open-hearted honesty, first with ourselves, then others; and connecting with our dreams and passions and letting those be the focus of our lives. This brings each individual wherever they need to go. It brings clarity to those with confusion, healing to those carrying emotional burdens, connection to those who feel isolated, and inspiration to those who feel stuck.
The Heart of Now works well for couples as well as individuals, as each member of the couple gets time to focus on themselves as an individual, and time to be supported as a couple.
"Participating in the Heart of Now as both a student and assistant has deepened connection with myself, others, and spirit. The practice of honesty is so empowering in my life. I breathe, tune into my body, see what is real for me, and speak my truth - letting go of wanting any results. I continue to be blown away when I share with others something that I thought was wrong with me, and it actually brings me closer to them. I feel this energy running through my body that had not been there for a long time."
-Deb C
*DETAILS
The Heart of Now will begin at 6:45 pm on Friday July 23rd, and end around 6:30pm on Sunday. You'll be served yummy vegetarian meals all weekend, and receive housing for students in rooms of two or three with bedding and comfy beds. Those who wish can enjoy the beauty of the outdoors by camping. Heart of Now. as always, has a very reasonable registration fee for what you will receive, $295 (or $225 if received by Monday July 5th). This course is limited to the first 18 students who register.

Eckankar Community HU Sing
Sunday, July 25, 2010 ~ at 10:00 – 10:30 am
Eugene ECKANKAR Center
2833C Willamette Street, Eugene, OR
(541) 343-2657

“HU is woven into the language of life. It is the Sound of all sounds. It is the wind in the leaves, falling rain, thunder of jets, singing of birds, the awful rumble of a tornado. Its sound is heard in laughter, weeping, the din of city traffic, ocean waves, and the quiet rippling of a mountain stream. And yet, the word HU is not God. It is a word people anywhere can use to address the Originator of Life.” - Sri Harold Klemp, Spiritual Leader of ECKANKAR, Religion of the Light and Sound of God

The Feldenkrais Method of movement education is practiced worldwide, for rehabilitation and injury prevention, and to assist in the development of fine motor skills. Awareness Through Movement classes increase mobility and help replace old patterns of movement with new ones. This improves breathing and circulation, as well as reduces pain and restriction of movement. Feldenkrais classes are popular with actors, musicians, dancers, as well as people of all vocations and ages who are interested in improved physical functionality and reduction in chronic or acute pain.
About our Instructor: Deborah discovered the benefits of the Feldenkrais Method first hand while attempted to recover from her third hip replacement surgery. She was still using a cane after nine-months of rigorous treatment in traditional Physical Therapy. Three Feldenkrais lessons in a ten-day time-span led to a dramatic breakthrough and her full recovery. She also offers private lessons at the Green Phoenix Clinic.

Ceremony and the invocation of sacred space can help bring our soul's intention to focus. The combustion of fire represents both release and manifestation - releasing old stories and drama, manifesting new life and new direction - rebirth. At the time of the full and new moons, the ancients believed the veils between the worlds to be thinnest, and ceremony done at these times was thought to be more powerful. Based on ancient medicine, this is an opportunity to use the transformational energy of fire to manifest the new, and to throw into the fire that which you are ready to discard or transform. Led by Susan Burns-Marriott, shamanic practitioner and hypnotherapist.

Weaving Tails of Light. It is an opportunity to bring the work of the Rites into daily energetic practices, tapping into the roots of Shamanic perception, visioning, and continuing the development of our luminous energy fields.
Please be on the look out for stones that want to work with you, as well as a cloth.
If weather permits we will be outside, so please bring layers. Bring also a rattle of drum if you have them, and any sacred objects you carry with you. As always, please feel free to bring friends.
Our Planned Schedule (be sure to check for updates about a week ahead of the class dates). We will start a bit earlier to give practice time.
Thursday, August 5th 6:30 pm
Friday, September 3rd 6:30 pm
Sunday, October, 3rd TBA
Wednesday, Nov 17th 6:30 pm
Sunday, December 5th TBA
Each Circle will hold it's own topic and practice, so you do not need to be at all of them to participate. We have shifted the days of the week, in hopes that more people will be able to be present for some of the Circles. Sunday sessions may be longer, so again, watch for announcements about a week ahead.

Chansi Gong: Theory & Practice of Silk-Reeling Qigong
Saturday, August 7th, 2010 ~ 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Cost: $35 (paid by August 5th), $40 (the day of)
Instructor: Matthew Sieradski, Director
Green Phoenix Institute
352 West 12th Ave., Eugene
(541) 344-0073
In this workshop Matthew will detail the theory and practice of the basic movements of the Silk-Reeling (Chansi) Qigong set and will work individually with each participant to deepen their practice. This workshop is suitable for both beginning and advanced students.
Chansi Gong is a set of exercises that trains the spiraling movements unique to the Hunyuan Taiji system. This set begins with a series of joint opening exercises and progresses to more advanced spiraling exercises. By consciously releasing restrictions in the movement of the body’s joints, we gradually differentiate their function, thereby attaining greater ease and range of motion. Subsequently, through practicing spiraling movements, we work to integrate the movements of all the body’s joints, creating Hunyuan Taiji’s signature fluidity of motion, known as chansi or “silk-reeling”.
About Instructor: Matthew P. Sieradski, Institute Director and Taiji Academy Chief Instructor, is a 20th-generation Chen-style Taiji and 3rd-generation Hunyuan Taiji lineage holder. His passion for these arts is both in sharing what he has learned to benefit others and in continuing to explore their endless depths. He has practiced martial arts for twenty years and also holds advanced degrees in Tae Kwon Do and Northern Shaolin Eagle Claw Kung Fu. He travels regularly to Seattle to continue advanced studies with his teacher, Harrison Moretz, director of the Taoist Studies Institute.
